Bali Trip - Week 1

While I live in Darwin all the rest of my family live in Sydney. We're a pretty close knit family so every year I usually fly down to Sydney about a week before Christmas and spend Christmas and New Year with my family before returning to Darwin about 3 weeks later. Sometimes I will combine this with a holiday somewhere else - twice I've continued on to New Zealand, once to the South Island and once to the North - but usually it's just down and back. This year I decided to do something a bit different so two mates and I planned a 3 week holiday in Bali instead.

I said two mates, but in fact one of the guys had to pull out for personal reasons the day before we left so it ended up being just Jaysin and I. We went for a total of three weeks, and spent the first and last weeks in Kuta, with a weeks travelling around in between. The highlight of the first week for me was definitely my birthday. I've always been a water baby, and have been a competitive swimmer, a swimming teacher, a scuba diver, a sailor, a lifesaver and a lifesaving instructor, but somehow with all of that I still never got a chance to learn to surf. But all that changed our first week there.

On my 35th Birthday, for the first time in my life, I stood up and surfed. *G*
